If back-to-school shopping has drained your bank account, then check out these four free shows happening in the Austin area. Eve and the Exiles

Eve & The Exiles

When: Friday, August 26th, 10:00 PM
Where: The ABGB
Cost: No Cover

The ABGB gets a dose of soul-affirming blues this Friday night with Eve and the Exiles. Eve Monsees has a rich history in the Austin blues scene, beginning her career as a teenager. She is now co-owner of Antone’s Record Shop, and plays all across the world with drummer Mike Buck and bassist Pat Collins. Monsees’ raw, edgy prowess will spike your adrenaline immediately. You’ll be rockin’ and reveling all night long this Friday night.

Blue Healer, Canvas People

When: Saturday, August 27th, 10:00 PM
Where: Kiva Lounge and Bar, San Marcos
Cost: No Cover

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but summer is ending. What better way to relish in the last of these lazy days than with a trip to San Marcos? You can float the river one last time and catch two amazing Austin bands play for free at The Kiva Lounge. Blue Healer’s smooth, catchy indie pop is palatable to all musical tastes, and Canvas People’s soaring melodies will sweep you off your feet. Both groups are releasing new music left and right. Check out Blue Healer’s debut album in September, and take a listen to Canvas People’s latest single, “Astronaut,” above.

Them Duqaines

Them Duqaines

When: Sunday, August 28th, 4:00 PM
Where: The Little Longhorn Saloon
Cost: No Cover

Kick up your boots and shuffle over to The Little Longhorn Saloon this Sunday. It’s the perfect day of the week for some Lucy’s Fried Chicken and a few Lone Star Beers, and Them Duqaines will provide the twangy, Texas soundtrack. Their honkey tonk tunes are pure two-stepping joy. There may not be much room on the small dance floor, but that won’t stop people from picking partners and twirling around anyway.

The Jack Burton Trio

Jack Burton Trio

When: Thursday, September 1st, 8:00 PM
Where: Icenhauer’s
Cost: No Cover

This might blow your mind, but The Jack Burton Trio is not actually a trio. This 9-piece funk outfit is Icenhauer’s weekly Thursday night residency. Now, before you start calling them liars for misleading you on their name, take a listen to their sound. It’s a force of magnetic, musical bliss. They’d only be liars if they didn’t tell you about their magnificent stage presence. This mega group will kick your weekend off early.
