Rookie: Austin’s Park
Start your engines at the entertainment center just north of Austin. Austin’s Park features two go kart tracks that are ideal for beginners. The Speedway Track is a small road course with long stretches and wide curves. The Slick Track is a smaller course with a slick surface perfect for practicing drifting skills. Despite the youthful atmosphere, these tracks offer a good challenge for adults who have never driven go karts before. Races start at $6.50.
Champion: K1 Speed
Put the pedal to the metal on the only indoor go kart track in Austin. K1 Speed has 35 locations nationwide and offers European-style 20hp electric karts. Race at speeds up to 45mph around an indoor road coarse. Experienced drivers can race against the clock or race in a 14 lap competition. K1 doesn’t offer reservations so expect to wait a couple hours on the weekends. Races start at $20.
Speedracer: Driveway Austin
Kick it into high gear at Austin’s top motorsports track and driving school. Driveway Austin offers gas-powered go kart racing on Sunday afternoons. Skilled instructors will teach you the precision techniques used by Formula 1 drivers. Talented drivers can race 10 laps around an outdoor road course at speeds up to 60 mph. Races start at $25.
Daredevil: Central Texas Speedway
Go full throttle with the fastest go kart experience in the area. Central Texas Speedway is just south of Austin and features a stock car track, music venue and festival grounds. Adventurous drivers can race around a 3/8 mile oval track at speeds up to 65 mph. Get extreme with no track bumpers and no safety harness in Honda GX270 powered go karts. Warning Label: This track is for serious racers. 10% of the drivers who enter the track, leave on a stretcher. Races start at $20.
